PANTS

PANTS

History.

The oldest pant was found on a mummified body in the Alps and is 5,300 years old. The body had a pair of trousers of leather that was held up by a belt while the abdomen was covered with a loincloth. Figures found in Siberia suggest that this type of clothing may have already been in use 18,000 years ago. Men in southern Iran also wore pants under their tunics, these pants can be dated back to 557-330 BC. At this time, the pants were wide and flowing, while in other cultures they were cut square. Over time, the pattern pieces got more curved and began to follow the body shape. Pants as those we use today were first regular attire in the early 1800s. The nobility and bourgeoisie had until then worn knickers and long socks. But in the aftermath of the French Revolution was the pants that went all the way to the ankles, socially acceptable. It became common for women to wear pants in the 60s and 70s where we rebelled against standards and social norms. "Everything a woman needs to follow fashion is a pair of pants, a sweater and a raincoat," stated Yves Saint Laurent, who was one of the first designers who made pants for women. However, we also saw pants on women way back in the 1930s, but here it was only reserved for sports. It is only after 2000, it has become quite common for women to wear pants.

Moodboard.

I`ve been inspired by a feeling and a mood, more than I`ve been inspired by a theme.

The atmosphere is simple, clean and naked. My design is simple in a clear and calm colour.

There are not many details on the pants as the aesthetics on my mood board is very minimalist and calm.
